...while I don't love these tires for the price (Pilot Super Sport all day, my mistake to buy these again), they are actually really nice in the rain. 4000lb car sticks way better than it should. It has a lot more tread than Super Sports, maybe that's why.

i plan to try their extreme contact DW soon. I currently have sumitomo (I don't know the model) summer tires.

I run the ExtremeContact DWS as an all season on my e28, I love them.
I'd rather have the DW's and a set of dedicated snows, but they're a great compromise. Field tested the DWS's at the Tail of the Dragon last year, ridiculously carvetastic for an all season, and can hold theor own in 85% of winter driving situations. Would not recommend for daily driving in blizzard country.
Someday I'd like to try the Pilot SS.

I don't believe in all season tires.

Neither do I, but I challenge you to find room for 4 winter tires in my apartment, let alone in my wallet. Compromises are the (opposite of) the zest of life.
There's already a 5-speed swap taking up half of my kitchen/living nook.

Evo crowned it winner in their 2014 tyre test! I have Uniroyal Rainsport 3's (not sure if available stateside) on my mx-5 and they are awesome in the wet. Uniroyal is a subsidiary of Continental so I imagine some tech has swapped hands.

Yeah but for 400+ per tire, I would much rather be on Pilot Super Sports.
They don't make them in my size :(

thats pretty steep mine were £33 a corner fitted, but they are 25 inchers. so 55 bucks a tyre.

Better yet, a stainless steel cargo net across half the space up on the ceiling. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Wow. Mine were basically $450 per corner fitted.

I had DWs on my old Mazdaspeed 6. They replaced a set of Sumitomo HTR Z IIIs.
The DWs have a pretty soft sidewall compared to most other "max performance" tires. Compared to the HTR Z IIIs, the DWs were quieter and more comfortable, had about the same amount of overall grip, but the turn-in response wasn't as sharp. They also got greasy when you were pushing hard a bit more quickly.
On the plus side, the HTR Z IIIs had an annoying habit of not staying fully round. I bought a "lifetime balancing" dealie at Discount Tire which I made somewhat frequent use of. No such issue on the DWs.

I've got some of these on my Smart ForTwo. The little sucker grips like hell, also in the wet. Sometimes I'm afraid to roll it in tight bends (got 195/45-16" at the front and 205/40-16" at the rear). They won't last very long however, not even with only 84HP (yes, that's the turbo version).
